The digital encyclopedia dedicated to preserving Tulu , history, literature, traditions, and culture. What started as a small community project is now the flagship platform for discovering the heritage of Tulunad.
Why We Created Tulupedia
In the early 2020s, a pressing issue became evident: while the Tulu speaking diaspora was vast and deeply connected to its roots, reliable, structured knowledge about the region's history, language, and culture was scattered. There was no single digital repository where one could find authenticated information about Paddanas, the Tulu script, local deities, or historical milestones of Tulunad.
A small group of enthusiasts-many of them students and young professionals-decided to bridge this gap. On August 21, 2022, they launched the beta version of Tulupedia. The goal was simple but ambitious: create a trusted, digital encyclopedia dedicated entirely to Tulu heritage.
"As Tulupedia grew, the team realized that preserving a culture required far more than an online encyclopedia-it needed an institution. This realization led directly to the birth of the Tulu Cultural Research Foundation."
Today, Tulupedia serves as the cornerstone of TCRF's digital initiatives. With the launch of Tulupedia 2.0 in 2026, it evolved from a curated editorial platform into a community-driven knowledge base. Accompanied by the Tulu Dictionary project, it continues to expand, ensuring that the legacy of Tulunad is accessible to the world.
